One chart, one project
Read this chart, then make from it.
This is not a detached chart-reading lesson. We use the same granny square coaster diagram from start to final round, so each rule has a place in a project.

1. Read the key
A symbol tells you the stitch; the project key tells you what that symbol means here.
2. Find the start
For a motif worked in rounds, locate the center or stated starting ring before following marks outward.
3. Follow one round
Keep the current round and its direction in view; do not try to read the entire chart at once.
4. Identify the repeat
Repeated groups are a route around the shape. Check the written instruction when the chart is reduced.
Follow the same diagram
Four stops. Then read the rest yourself.
The point is not to finish a lesson. It is to recognise the next decision when your yarn and hook are in front of you.

Center
Find the beginning, not every symbol.
This project starts at the center. A round chart grows outward. Before reading a stitch, locate the center and the first ring of marks.
Start point: center first. The project legend decides the exact starting method.

Round 2
Read one round as one route.
Ignore the outer marks for now. The visible second round is about where the corners begin to appear, not about memorising the full square.
Direction: follow the stated round direction and the project key, not the visual page order alone.

Round 3
Look at relationships between symbols.
Symbols that rise from the same base are a group in one target. Open spaces between groups become important locations in later rounds.
Placement: the symbol says what to make; its base and grouping help show where it belongs.

Round 4
Use the chart as a check, then make.
The full diagram tells you the shape you are building. Make Mode reduces it to one current round, an expected check, and a route back if you get stuck.
Do not guess a chain space or join from a diagram alone; use the project instruction and target cue.
When a mark stops you
Do not leave the project to search broadly.
Open the symbol system to see what the mark means and where it belongs. If the hand movement is the problem, use the short Magic Ring or Double Crochet action reminder, then return to the same round.
