Calculator / Yarn estimate
Estimate yarn from the fabric you actually make.
Weigh a real swatch, enter your finished rectangle, then add a buffer. This is more useful than choosing yarn by a generic project label.
Why weigh a swatch?
Yarn weight labels cannot account for your stitch, hook, tension, or fabric density. A weighed swatch makes the estimate specific to your project.
How much buffer?
Start with 10–15% for a simple blanket. Increase it for large borders, cables, uneven stripes, or yarn that may be difficult to buy again.
Before you order
Check the yardage or grams per skein, buy the same dye lot when possible, and keep the label with your project notes.
Make the estimate match your gauge
Use the gauge calculator for stitch planning, then save the numbers on your printable project planner.
